Secondhand Prose sells quality used books at 1222 Main Street in St. Johnsbury, VT. The shop opened in October 2006 as a fundraising effort by the Friends of the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, on behalf of the library and art gallery across the road in that historic and lovely structure.

Staffed by dedicated volunteers, Secondhand Prose welcomes the books that neighbors and visitors donate. Raising support for the Athenaeum through selling these books is our entire mission.

On the Shelves - Spring Surprises at Secondhand Prose

Our February romance and March biography sales went well, so we are filling up again with fresh material! For more extra-low-price bargains sure to take advantage of the quarterly inventory clearance days, which this spring are March 27, 28, and 29.

Just in: A collection of history, including Civil War material, from a St. J. "oldtimer." Check out our gardening and home repair shelves, too, as spring arrives.

Wanted: Your extra books as you spring clean! Drop off a bag or two at any time -- but if you're bringing more, please make an appointment with our Thursday sorting and pricing team, 748-9222.

How to Donate Books

Your donations of clean, untorn books, ready for fresh readers, are greatly appreciated. Because we have limited storage space, we ask you to make an appointment for delivering your books. Please call us at 748-9222 during our hours of operation.
