Henry Lerolle (1848-1929), French Henry Lerolle was best known as a religious painter and his prestigious public commissions included Paris' City Hall and cathedrals throughout France. The contemplative mood of his Peasant Scene shares a sense of introspective repose and harmony with nature that typical of Lerolle's genre scenes, imbuing peasant life with quiet sanctity.
