Friedrich Boser (1809-1881), German Friedrich Boser's charming depiction of a young street vendor hawking his wares adopts a popular theme in mid-nineteenth century art. Probably derived from similar themes in European Rococo art of the mid-eighteenth century, these happy, healthy young people manifest none of the cares, burdens, or chicanery of their adult peers. Boser, like many other artists working in both Europe and America, made his career of depicting a wide array of such gainfully employed youths.
