Bruce Barret of Maine has loaned the Athenaeum a micromosaic table that has come down through his family. The appraisal describes the table "Italian, Third Quarter of the 19th Century." Mr. Barret has visited the Athenaeum for years. He has an affection for the institution and had seen the Athenaeum's two mircromosaic pieces on many visits. The table has been in his family for years coming from his grandfather. Mr. Barret said, "I thought it would be nice to show it to the people in St. Johnsbury and other visitors to the Athenaeum".
Athenaeum Director Bob Joly praised the condition and beauty of the table. "This is a very fine example of the art. The flowers and doves, and Greek-key motifs are found in other great examples of this kind of work. We are very grateful to Mr. Barret for loaning this beautiful table to the Athenaeum to enhance understanding of the art form."
