Join friends at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum on Tuesday, August 6 at 7:00 PM to honor Elka and Peter Schumann of Bread and Puppet Theater.

Professor John Bell, Director of the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry and long-time Bread and Puppet performer, will speak on the importance of Bread & Puppet Theater in the history of puppetry and pag-eant. Elka and Peter will be presented with keys to the Athenaeum, and a short performance will follow. A festive gathering with beer, wine, and bread and aioli will conclude the event.

Peter Schumann describes their work this way: "We are the Bread & Puppet Theater because we offer good old sourdough rye bread together with a great variety of puppetshows, some good, some not so good, but all for the good and against the bad. The art of puppetry helps women, men and children alike to overcome the established order and the obsessive submission to its politics and consequent brutalities."
