Papermaking Collaborations will exhibit works by Janus Press (founded by Claire Van Vliet nearly 70 years ago). John Buchtel, Ph.D., Curator of Rare Books and Head of Special Collections at the Boston Athenaeum, is the featured speaker. His talk will illuminate the resonance between the physical book and the poetry and prose being displayed. The exhibit will include a selection of Claire’s pulp paintings and six particular books: Circle of Wisdom, Batterers, Lilac Wind, Watermarks, The Dream of the Dirty Woman, and Aura. The exhibit will be in the Athenaeum Hall Gallery from September 4 through October 31.
This event is free, ADA accessible, and open to the public.
