Literacy Outreach Coordinator

The Literacy Outreach Coordinator is a national service position with LEAP, the Lyndonville Economic AmeriCorps Program, serving at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian. Term of service is September 3, 2019 - May 31, 2020, with the possibility of continued service the next term. Members must complete 450 hours during this time period. 

Basic duties:

The Literacy Outreach Coordinator provides storytimes and circulates library book bags to identified childcare centers in the St. Johnsbury community. This person promotes the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum programming to the children, parents, and childcare centers.  The Literacy Outreach Coordinator will have the opportunity to collaborate on Athenaeum events for the childcare children, parents, and providers. The person in this position must enjoy working with children and adults.

 Skills needed:

Good communication and interpersonal skills; commitment to serving the community; excellent organizational skills; ability to work independently and in a team; valid driver’s license and access to private transportation. Prior library experience and knowledge of children’s literature is a plus.

 Compensation:

Service year living allowance - $3000 (pre tax)

Education Award upon successful completion of service hours - $1612.43 (pre tax)

If the LEAP member does not wish to utilize the education award for themselves, they may transfer the education award to one of their children, foster children, or grandchildren. A member must be age 55 or older to qualify for the education award transfer. Other benefits include school loan forbearance: deferment on federally subsidized school loans and various training opportunities.
