Unknown Artist - Albert Thaddeus Fairbanks
Albert Thaddeus Fairbanks, undated
oil on canvas, 35 ½ x 21 ½ inches
Gift of Mrs. Henry Fairbanks
Albert Fairbanks was the son of Athenaeum founder Horace Fairbanks' cousin Henry. Albert died at age fifteen. This portrait was probably painted during the sitter's lifetime as a symbol of his family's pride, but was likely presented to the Athenaeum by his mother after his death as a tribute to his memory.
