On Friday, October 30 from 5-6 pm, sensory-sensitive youth and their families can celebrate Halloween in a calm, welcoming space. Eighteen NEK organizations will be at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum with tables decorated for Halloween and offering treats, crafts, or quiet activities, with sensory sensitivities in mind. The organizations include The Arlington School, Building Bright Futures, The Children’s Museum of the Northeast Kingdom, Community Bank, Everybody Wins Vermont, Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, The Friends of the Athenaeum and Secondhand Prose, Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains, Illumine Education and Behavioral Collaborative, Kingdom Autism and Behavioral Health, NEKCA Community Action, Rotary Kingdom Impact, St. Johnsbury Academy National Honor Society, St. Johnsbury Athenaeum Board of Trustees, St. Johnsbury Fire and Rescue, St. Johnsbury History and Heritage Center, St. Johnsbury REC Department, St. Johnsbury School CatCH, and Umbrella.
The event is free, ADA accessible, and open to families with sensory-sensitive children.
"I am absolutely grateful we've been able to bring together so many organizations to support our NEK youth through this inclusive programming," says Youth Services and Head Librarian Becky Hatfield.
